Quick answer: Cigna sold its Medicare business to HCSC, and it now runs under the name HealthSpring. For 2027, HealthSpring’s Part B giveback plan, Cigna Preferred Savings, is ending, and HealthSpring will offer only a single core plan that is suppressed, meaning it isn’t marketed and isn’t really seeking new members. If your plan is ending, compare your options during the Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 to December 7. Under 65? Cigna is leaving the ACA Marketplace for 2027, but it’s still available through private plans.

Hi, I’m Nathan Curry, a licensed independent Medicare and ACA broker with HealthBrokerFL.com in South Daytona. “Cigna” is one of the most searched names in our area right now, and a lot of folks are confused about what happened. Here’s the plain English version.
Cigna Medicare is now HealthSpring
Cigna is no longer in the Medicare space. Cigna sold its Medicare business to HCSC, and those plans now go by the name HealthSpring. If you had a Cigna Medicare Advantage plan, your mail, ID card, and plan documents may now say HealthSpring.
What changes in 2027
- The Part B giveback plan is ending. HealthSpring’s Part B giveback plan, Cigna Preferred Savings, exits for 2027. If you’re on it, you’ll need a new plan for January 1.
- A single core plan, and it’s suppressed. HealthSpring will offer only one core plan for 2027. A suppressed plan isn’t marketed and isn’t really looking for new members.
Who’s affected
If you’re on Cigna Preferred Savings, the HealthSpring Part B giveback plan, your plan is ending and you should receive a non-renewal letter. If you’re on the core plan, read your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) carefully, because benefits can change every year. If you were thinking about joining HealthSpring as a new member, know that it isn’t really seeking new membership for 2027.
Suppressed is not the same as ending
A suppressed plan still serves the people already in it. Suppression by itself doesn’t give you a special enrollment period or a guaranteed issue right. Only a plan that actually ends opens those doors.
Why plans end (and why it’s not your fault)
When a plan leaves, it’s usually a service area reduction. Medicare Advantage companies contract with Medicare one calendar year at a time, and when a plan isn’t profitable, the company can choose not to renew it. It isn’t about your health or the care you used. Everyone on that plan gets the same letter.
The upside: a guaranteed issue right
When a Medicare Advantage plan ends through no fault of your own, you get a guaranteed issue right to buy a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) without answering health questions, as long as you switch to Original Medicare and apply in time: as early as 60 days before your Advantage coverage ends and no later than 63 days after it ends. Federal rules guarantee Plans A, B, C, D, F, G, K, or L (C and F only if you were first eligible for Medicare before 2020). Keep your non-renewal letter, because it’s your proof. If your plan is ending, you also get a special enrollment period, so you have time beyond December 7. My honest advice is still to choose during AEP so there’s no gap on January 1. For the full details, see my page on what to do when your Medicare Advantage plan is leaving in 2027.
On the HealthSpring giveback plan? Let’s find your next plan before December 7. Call or text 386-401-5644.
What to do now
- Check your ID card and mail. Does it say HealthSpring, and is it the Part B giveback plan?
- Watch for a non-renewal letter or your Annual Notice of Change, and keep it.
- Make a list of every medication, including sprays, inhalers, and creams.
- List the doctors and hospitals you want to keep.
- Decide if a Medicare Supplement makes sense for you while you have a guaranteed issue right.
- Compare your 2027 options with us between October 15 and December 7. Our Medicare AEP checklist for Volusia County walks you through it.
Cigna under 65: ACA and private plans
Cigna is also exiting the ACA Marketplace for 2027, so there will be no Cigna plans on Healthcare.gov next year. If you have a Cigna Marketplace plan now, you’ll need to choose a new plan during open enrollment.
Cigna is still available through private insurance plans outside the Marketplace. These plans don’t come with Marketplace subsidies, so they usually fit people who don’t qualify for a subsidy. See our page on private PPO health plans for people who don’t qualify for subsidies, and we’ll help you compare them with Marketplace options.
HealthSpring Medicare plans in Volusia and Flagler for 2027
CMS 2027 plan data lists HealthSpring Preferred (HMO) H5410-059 in Volusia and Flagler with a $0 monthly premium, a $7,100 in-network out-of-pocket limit and a $400 Part D deductible. It’s HealthSpring’s core plan for 2027, and because it’s suppressed, you may not see it when you search on Medicare.gov. We can still look it up and compare it for you. HealthSpring also offers TotalCare and TotalCare Plus (HMO D-SNP) for people with both Medicare and Medicaid.

HealthSpring Medicare Supplement plans
HealthSpring also sells Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans, and its rates are competitive in our area. We’re appointed to offer them. If your HealthSpring giveback plan is ending and you’d rather move to Original Medicare, a Supplement can be a good conversation to have while you have a guaranteed issue right. Prices depend on your age, ZIP code, tobacco use and when you enroll, so we quote them one-on-one instead of posting rates. We compare HealthSpring Supplements side by side with Florida Blue, Aetna and AARP/UnitedHealthcare. Learn more about Medicare Supplement plans in Florida and pairing one with a Part D drug plan.
Changing plans and need a new doctor?
If your HealthSpring plan is ending, the plan you move to may use a different network. We’ve built relationships with several doctors’ offices around Volusia County. If you need a new primary care doctor, we’ll help place you with a practice that takes your new plan and make a warm introduction.
