2027 Medicare changes Daytona Beach residents need to know

This fall is a big one for Daytona. Several plans that many local seniors have relied on are leaving or changing for 2027, so it is worth opening every letter your plan sends before December 7.

  • Humana Full Access Giveback PPOs (H7617-111 and H5216-393): Humana is not renewing these plans in Volusia County for 2027. They are not staying in Brevard County either. Humana’s giveback options in Brevard for 2027 are different HumanaChoice Giveback plans, so we will compare what is actually available at your address. Read what the Humana exits mean for Volusia.
  • Cigna is now HealthSpring: the Preferred Savings plan, the Part B giveback option, is being terminated. See Cigna is now HealthSpring: what changes in 2027.
  • Health First: Health First is pulling back to its home counties for 2027 and is staying in Volusia, with plan changes members should review. Details: Health First Medicare Advantage changes for 2027.

If your plan is ending, you did nothing wrong, and it can open doors, including a guaranteed issue right to buy certain Medigap plans without health questions. Our full guide walks through every step: Your Medicare Advantage plan is leaving in 2027. For a checklist of what to compare before the deadline, see the Volusia AEP checklist.

Why Daytona Beach clients choose a local broker

We are an independent agency, not a call center and not tied to any one insurance company. For Medicare Advantage and Part D, Medicare sets how agents are paid, so our pay does not depend on which company you pick. That lets us start with what matters to you: your doctors, your prescriptions and your budget.

Medicare agent or Medicare broker: what is the difference?

A Medicare agent usually represents one insurance company, so you only see that company’s plans. A broker represents multiple companies. Be careful, though: some offices call themselves brokers and only carry three or four plans. We represent all of the Medicare plans available in Volusia County, so we can lay every option side by side for you.

That matters more than people think. Medicare Supplement plans are standardized, so a Plan G is a Plan G, but I regularly see people paying $60 or more a month extra for the exact same coverage because they stayed with the first company they found. Rate history matters too. Some companies have raised Supplement rates by double digits recently, as high as about 17% in a single year, so we look at how a company has treated its policyholders over time, not just this year’s price.

Because we sit just south of the city, Daytona Beach is home turf. We help people who live near the Speedway and LPGA Boulevard, beachside condo owners on A1A, longtime residents in the neighborhoods around Daytona State College, and retirees in the communities off Clyde Morris and Williamson. Some come in turning 65, some just moved to Florida, and many simply want a second set of eyes on their annual change notice.

The three mistakes I see most at 65

  1. Missing the Initial Enrollment Period. Your window starts three months before the month you turn 65 and ends three months after. Miss it without other qualifying coverage and you can face a delay and a lifelong Part B penalty.
  2. Skipping a Medicare Supplement when you have health conditions. In your first six months with Part B at 65 or older, a Supplement company cannot turn you down for your health. After that, in Florida, most changes require health questions and you can be declined. If you have chronic conditions, that first window is the one to use.
  3. Not picking up a Part D drug plan when first eligible. If you go 63 days or more without creditable drug coverage, a late penalty is added to your premium for as long as you have Part D. See what it could cost with our Part D late enrollment penalty calculator.

What happens at your first appointment

Education comes first, and there is no pressure. We help with Social Security timing and signing up for Medicare, then walk through Medicare Supplement versus Medicare Advantage and what each really costs. From there it is about your goals. If lowering costs matters most, a Part B giveback plan may fit. If you live with diabetes, a chronic condition special needs plan may be worth a look. We also screen for Medicaid and Extra Help with drug costs and can help you apply right here in the office.

After you enroll, we do not disappear. We check in every three months during your first year, then every six months, help with claims and billing questions, and review your plan with you every Annual Enrollment Period. You can self-educate on Medicare, but it changes every year. Do you want to take that on year after year? We are happy to. We enjoy it, and most of our thousands of clients came to us through referrals.

Daytona hospitals and your plan network

Most Daytona Beach seniors want to know one thing first: will my hospital take this plan? The two big names here are Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach on North Clyde Morris Boulevard and AdventHealth Daytona Beach on Memorial Medical Parkway. Networks differ by plan and can change every year, and not every Advantage plan contracts with both systems. With a Medicare Supplement there is no network, so any provider in the country that accepts Medicare works. We check your hospital, doctors and pharmacy before you choose. Want the full picture? Compare Medicare Advantage plans in Daytona Beach and Medicare Supplement plans in Daytona Beach.

High-Deductible Plan G: an option for healthy clients

For very healthy people who want the freedom to see any doctor in the country that takes Medicare, High-Deductible Plan G can be a great value. You pay covered costs up to a yearly deductible set by Medicare, then the plan pays the rest. Many of my clients pair it with a cancer, heart attack and stroke plan and a hospital protection plan, which together can keep the total monthly cost low for excellent coverage. We will price it next to standard Plan G and Plan N so you can see the trade-off.

Snowbirds and part-time Floridians

If you split the year between Daytona and another state, plan type matters. A Medicare Supplement or a PPO travels better. On an HMO, outside your service area you are generally only covered for emergency care, urgent care and out-of-area dialysis, so routine visits up north would not be covered.

Still working at 65, or covered by the VA or TRICARE

If you are still working, we compare your employer plan with Medicare. Often Medicare is cheaper or better, but not always. If your employer has 20 or more employees, you can usually delay Part B without a penalty and sign up later with a special enrollment period.

TRICARE For Life requires you to have Part A and Part B, and it pays after Original Medicare. If you get your care through the VA and are happy with it, you can consider delaying Part B, but VA coverage does not protect you from the Part B late penalty if you sign up later. Some Medicare Advantage plans without drug coverage are built for veterans and TRICARE members, and some include a Part B premium reduction plus dental, vision, hearing, over the counter and gym benefits. You can return to Original Medicare during an enrollment period if it is not the right fit.

Want to switch plans later? No birthday rule in Florida

Florida does not have a Medigap birthday rule, so changing a Supplement outside a guaranteed issue window usually means answering health questions. We review your current conditions and medications, use our software to screen out companies with known health knockouts, and point you to the companies that are more lenient with certain conditions. We help you apply, and we never change or cancel anything until your new approval comes through.

Kathy Anderson, Google review

★★★★★

“I am very impressed by the knowledge of my new agent. Nathan was very helpful in helping me find a new health plan. He told me things that I had forgotten about my plan. I’ve been on the same insurance plan for years. Not knowing there were other forms of the same insurance, yet came with better extra covers. I will be sharing his name and # with friends. I’d give him 100 stars if I could!”

Daytona Beach Medicare FAQs

Is there a Medicare broker near me in Daytona Beach?

Yes. USA Benefits Group (HealthBrokerFL) is at 913 Big Tree Road in South Daytona, a short drive from downtown Daytona Beach, the Speedway area and the beachside. You can sit down with a licensed agent at the office, or we can meet by phone, video or at your home.

What does a Medicare broker cost?

Nothing. The insurance company pays the agency, and your premium for the same plan is the same whether you enroll with us, with the company directly or on Medicare.gov. We never charge you a broker fee.

My Humana Full Access Giveback PPO is ending in Volusia. What are my options?

Humana is not renewing the Full Access Giveback PPOs H7617-111 and H5216-393 in Volusia County for 2027, and they are not staying in Brevard either. Keep your non-renewal letter. You can pick another plan by December 7 for coverage on January 1, and if you go back to Original Medicare you may have a guaranteed issue right to buy certain Medigap plans without health questions.

Is Halifax Health or AdventHealth Daytona Beach in my plan’s network?

It depends on the plan, and networks can change from year to year. Before you enroll, we check Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach, AdventHealth Daytona Beach, your doctors and your pharmacy against each plan we show you.

Can I get Medicare help in Spanish in Daytona Beach?

Yes. Catherine Curry on our team speaks Spanish and can walk you through your options at no cost. Call 386-401-5644.

What is the difference between a Medicare agent and a Medicare broker?

A Medicare agent usually represents one insurance company. A broker represents multiple companies. USA Benefits Group represents all of the Medicare plans available in Volusia County, so we can compare every option for you at no cost.

When should I sign up for Medicare if I turn 65 in Daytona Beach?

Your Initial Enrollment Period starts three months before the month you turn 65 and ends three months after. If you are still working with employer coverage from a company with 20 or more employees, you can usually delay Part B without a penalty. We help you time it with Social Security.

Can I change my Medicare Supplement later in Florida?

Florida has no Medigap birthday rule, so outside a guaranteed issue window most changes require health questions and you can be declined. We screen companies for your conditions before you apply and never cancel your current plan until the new one is approved.

What Medicare plan works for snowbirds?

A Medicare Supplement or a PPO usually works best if you split time between Florida and another state. An HMO generally covers only emergency care, urgent care and out-of-area dialysis outside its service area.

Do I need Part B if I have TRICARE For Life or VA benefits?

TRICARE For Life requires Part A and Part B and pays after Original Medicare. VA users can choose to delay Part B, but VA coverage does not prevent the Part B late penalty if you enroll later.

When can I change my Medicare plan for 2027?

The Annual Enrollment Period runs October 15 to December 7, and changes take effect January 1, 2027. If your plan is leaving the area, you also get a special enrollment period, but choosing by December 7 avoids any gap in coverage.
