If your mailbox in Daytona Beach looks like a paper factory exploded inside it, you are probably already on Medicare or turning 65 soon. Most of my clients in Volusia County tell me the same thing: they are drowning in mailers, postcards, and “official looking” letters telling them they are overpaying. It is overwhelming, and frankly, it is exhausting.
This guide cuts through the noise. I will show you which insurance companies offer the best Medicare Supplement plans in Florida for 2027, how Plan G, Plan N and High Deductible Plan G compare, and the Florida rules that decide when you can switch. It is the same advice I give clients sitting across from me at my office in South Daytona, and it works the same whether you live in Daytona Beach, Orange Park, Jacksonville or Tampa.

Medicare Supplement Plans in Florida for 2027: What to Know
Let me start with the one fact that clears up most of the confusion: Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans are standardized. A Plan G from one company covers exactly the same things as a Plan G from any other company. What changes from company to company is the price, the household discount, how the company has handled rate increases, and its customer service.
Here is what I tell clients shopping for 2027:
- Your plan does not change on January 1, but your premium can. Medigap rate increases usually happen on the policy anniversary or when the carrier files a new rate. Many Florida carriers have raised rates in recent years, so expect your premium to keep moving.
- The Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 to December 7) is not a Medigap switching window. That window is for Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans. In Florida you can apply for a new Medigap company any month, but outside a protected window you will usually answer health questions.
- Your Part D drug plan is separate. Medigap does not cover prescriptions. For 2027, a standalone Part D plan can have a deductible of up to $700 (plans can set it lower), and your out-of-pocket cost for covered drugs is capped at $2,400.
- The 2027 Part A and Part B deductibles have not been released yet. The figures below are the 2026 numbers. I will update this page when Medicare announces 2027.
Plan G vs Plan N vs High Deductible Plan G
These are the three plans I quote most often in Florida for people new to Medicare after 2020. Here is how they compare using 2026 figures:
| Plan G | Plan N | High Deductible Plan G | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Part A hospital deductible ($1,736 in 2026) | Covered | Covered | Covered after the plan deductible |
| Part B deductible ($283 in 2026) | You pay it | You pay it | Counts toward the plan deductible |
| Doctor and specialist visits | Covered after the Part B deductible | Up to a $20 copay for some office visits | Covered after the plan deductible |
| Emergency room | Covered after the Part B deductible | Up to a $50 copay (waived if you are admitted) | Covered after the plan deductible |
| Part B excess charges | Covered | Not covered | Covered after the plan deductible |
| Plan deductible | None beyond the Part B deductible | None beyond the Part B deductible | $2,950 in 2026 |
| Monthly premium | Highest of the three | Usually lower than Plan G | Usually the lowest |
| Good fit for | People who want the most predictable costs | Healthy people who don’t mind small copays | People who want low premiums and can handle a larger bill in a bad year |

The Best Medicare Supplement Companies in Florida
When people ask me for the best Medicare Supplement companies in Florida, I look at more than this month’s premium. A company that is $10 cheaper today but raises rates sharply every year will put you right back in this confused spot twelve months from now. Here are the names I compare most often for Florida clients:
1. AARP / UnitedHealthcare
AARP Medicare Supplement plans are insured by UnitedHealthcare and are one of the most widely held Medigap brands in Florida. Many of my clients like the large member pool and the household and enrollment discounts. You need an AARP membership to buy one.
2. Florida Blue (Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida)
As our home-state carrier, Florida Blue has a big presence in Volusia County and across the state, including Duval and Clay counties. Florida Blue has local centers where you can talk to someone in person, which many of my clients appreciate. Their rates are often middle of the road. More on Florida Blue in the FAQ below.
3. State Farm
Many people think of State Farm only for auto insurance, but it sells Medicare Supplement plans in Florida and is often competitive on Plan G and Plan N. It is worth including in any comparison.
4. Mutual of Omaha
Mutual of Omaha has been in the Medicare business for decades and sells through more than one company in its family, so you may see different price points depending on your age. Clients tell me claims and the online portal are easy to use.
Other carriers can be the best price for your age and ZIP code, so I always run the full market, not just these four. Prices change often, which is why I don’t publish a price list here. A quote for your exact age, ZIP code and tobacco status is the only number that counts.
How I Choose Between Companies (Same Plan, Different Price)
Because the coverage is identical, I compare companies on these points:
- Today’s premium for your age, ZIP code and tobacco status.
- Rate increase history. I look at how the company has raised rates over the last several years, not just its first year price.
- Household discount. Many companies offer one if you live with another adult. Some require that person to have a policy too, so this can change which company is cheapest.
- Financial strength. I check the company’s AM Best rating so you know it can pay claims for the long run.
- Service. How easy it is to reach someone, and what my clients tell me about claims.
You can also check Medigap rates yourself on the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation website, and the Florida Department of Financial Services consumer helpline is 1-877-693-5236 if you ever have a complaint about an insurer.
Florida Enrollment Rules: Open Enrollment, Guaranteed Issue and No Birthday Rule
This is where people get hurt, so please read it carefully.
- Medigap Open Enrollment at 65. You get a six month window that starts when you are 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. During it, a company cannot turn you down or charge you more because of your health.
- Under 65 on Medicare. Florida law (section 627.6741, Florida Statutes) gives people under 65 who have Medicare because of a disability or end stage renal disease a six month open enrollment window as well.
- When group coverage ends. Florida law also gives you a window of 2 months after employer group health coverage ends, and federal rules give guaranteed issue rights in certain situations, like your Medicare Advantage plan leaving your area. Read my guide to Medigap guaranteed issue rights for which plans you can get.
- Florida has no birthday rule. Some states let you switch Medigap plans around your birthday without health questions. Florida does not. Outside a protected window, a new company can ask health questions and decline you.
- Leaving Medicare Advantage? See the Florida rules for switching from Medicare Advantage to a Supplement before you drop your plan.
Plan G and Plan N in Orange Park and Northeast Florida
I get a lot of questions from folks in Orange Park, Fleming Island, Middleburg and the rest of Clay County, and from Jacksonville and St. Johns County. The good news: Plan G and Plan N cover the same benefits in Orange Park as they do in Daytona Beach. Medigap works with any doctor or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare, so there is no network to check.
What does change by ZIP code is the price. Companies price Northeast Florida differently from Volusia County or Tampa, so the cheapest Plan G in 32073 may not be the cheapest in 32114. I work with clients across Florida by phone and video, so I can run the Orange Park or Jacksonville market for you the same way I do for my neighbors here.
Common Mistakes I See
- Chasing the lowest teaser rate. A company that enters with a very low price may raise it quickly later. Look at the rate history, not just the first year.
- Skipping the household discount. It can change which company is actually the cheapest for you.
- Ignoring Plan N. Everyone talks about Plan G, but Plan N is often the smarter financial move for people who don’t see the doctor every week.
- Thinking Medigap has an annual open enrollment. It doesn’t. Your Open Enrollment is a one time window, and Florida has no birthday rule. Don’t wait until you get sick to shop for a better rate.
Working With an Independent Broker in Daytona Beach
You could spend hours calling every insurance company yourself, or spend fifteen minutes with an independent broker. I work with multiple carriers, not one. My loyalty is to you, not to an insurance company. I compare the carriers side by side, including current rates, rate history and financial ratings.
I am licensed in 30+ states, including Florida, but my heart is right here in Central Florida. I serve Daytona Beach, Volusia County and Palm Coast in person, and clients remotely across Florida and beyond.
There is no broker fee. The insurance carrier pays my agency, so you pay the same premium whether you buy through me or directly from the company. The difference is that you get a local advocate who will still be here next year when your rate changes.
Frequently Asked Questions About Florida Medicare Supplements
What are the best Medicare Supplement plans in Florida for 2027?
For most people new to Medicare, it comes down to Plan G, Plan N or High Deductible Plan G. Plan G gives the most predictable costs, Plan N trades small copays for a lower premium, and High Deductible Plan G has the lowest premiums with a larger deductible. The best company for that plan depends on your age and ZIP code.
Is Florida Blue a good Medicare Supplement company?
Florida Blue is a solid choice for many Floridians. It is our home-state Blue Cross Blue Shield company, it has local centers, and many of my clients like its service. Its prices are often middle of the road, so it is not always the cheapest. I compare it against the other companies for your age and ZIP code so you can decide.
Is Florida Blue better than AARP/UnitedHealthcare for Medigap?
Neither is better in a vacuum. The coverage is identical for the same plan letter. The difference is price, discounts, rate history and service, and that changes by age and ZIP code. I run both side by side for you.
Can I switch Medigap companies any time in Florida?
You can apply any time, but outside your Open Enrollment or a guaranteed issue situation you will usually answer health questions, and the company can decline you. Florida has no birthday rule.
How much does Plan G cost in Orange Park or Jacksonville?
It depends on your age, ZIP code, tobacco use and household discount, and prices change often. Call me and I will pull current quotes for your ZIP code from the companies available there.
Will Medigap rates go up in 2027?
Many companies raise rates over time, often on your policy anniversary. That is why I look at each company’s rate history and review your plan with you every year.
Ready to Compare Your Options?
You don’t have to guess which company is best. I can run a full market report of the Medicare Supplement companies in your ZIP code, and we can look at the rates, rate history and ratings together.
